We have applicants for the 2021 fiscal year, who have been approved for the senior work off program. Some of our applicants did get in some hours before the COVID shutdown. It appears that the applicants will not be able to complete their required hours to get the full exemption amount (1,000). The Council on Aging has requested that the Board of Assessors "forgive" the required work hours for this year and grant all the applicants the full exemption amount regardless of the hours worked. In Groveland we allow up to December 31 to complete their hours. I reviewed the COVID information on the DLS website and did not see any guidance or changes that would allow us to forgive the hours. Does anyone have information pertaining to this? If so, could you forward or guide me to where the information is? Thank you. Debby Webster - Groveland

I believe that individual towns create their own program requirements. Our Select Board granted the full exemption for FY21 to anyone that completed at least half of their required hours prior to COVID, and they granted half the exemption amount to anyone that completed less than half of the hours. If the volunteer could not complete any hours they were still granted half the amount.

I don't believe our town is accepting applications for FY22 volunteers.

Our workoff program is run by the Council on Aging and the Select Board. The Board of Assessors just acts on their recommendations.
