Robert J. Ellia Executive Director Award: The Massachusetts Association of Assessing Officers, through its Executive Board, voted to establish the Robert J. Ellia Executive Director Award. Robert “Bob” J. Ellia was the first executive director for the MAAO. Bob dedicated himself to this position by providing leadership to its Presidents, Executive Board Members, Education Chairmen, all other committee members and assessing peers. Through his mentoring and guidance, Bob helped build the MAAO to a nationally recognized organization that provides some of the best education in the world to its members. Bob was the Dean of Students for many years and believed strongly that the Association was only as strong as its education. This annual award is presented to the assessor who has dedicated himself to mentoring others through leadership guidance and education. This person always strives to teach others about our association to strengthen the profession and should exemplify professionalism, friendship, and leadership to others. Any regular member of the Association may be nominated.
Phillip J. Waterman Journalism Award: In 2016, the MAAO instituted the Phillip J Waterman Journalism Award. Phil was a past president of the MAAO and was one of the founders of the MAAO newsletter.
